2024-04-12I bought a 1943 Clausing Model 100mk3 lathe at an auction. I was able to go play with it, but not under power. As a first time lathe buyer (and future owner) I did my best to do my research and figure out what to look for.
Everything looked good as far as I could tell. The lathe was well worn, but appeared to be well maintained, and undamaged. After I got it home, I discovered that one of the gears under the cover on the right side had a bunch of missing teeth (~10, ouch). It appears to function fine despite the broken teeth. I think it helps that they're on a 72T gear, so they're more spread out.
I plan on documenting my journey into lathe ownership and hobby machining here.
